We kick off a new series today called “Plot Twist” where we jump into what are some familiar stories about Jesus. However, this look at familiar stories is one where we are paying extra attention to the sudden plots twists that happen.

Believe it or not, when the plot twists in each of these stories there is something important for us to learn. Even better than that, each lesson drives us forward into the calling that God has for each of us in our lives. Today we begin with an unexpected series of events that we not so random….

We on an amazing planet that God has created. This planet is loaded with mystery and discovery. Imagine what it might have been like to live in an era where human beings lived alongside some of the most massive, frightening, and mysterious creatures ever created. This is not science fiction, this is actually a look at some amazing creatures that have been lost in the years with the passing of time. But these creatures can teach us much about their Creator, the times they thrived within, and some things we can learn from them.

This series explores the wonder and the mystery of the Holy Spirit (also known as the Holy Ghost), and examines His work in the lives of followers everywhere. This crash course will allow us to get to know the Holy Spirit better and to walk with Him through every part of our daily lives. The better we know His story – the more we are empowered to love others, talk about Jesus, and live lives that make a difference.

It is Easter at The Church @ 434. We are thrilled that you are on the adventure with us this morning. It is safe to say that the world we live in can be overwhelming, confusing, and sometimes just plain scary. What if we could know the source of hope, peace, and future? The good news is that we can- it is true – we can know. In this unique blending of all the passages from the gospels that describe that first Easter morning, we will see how God was making sure that we got the complete picture of what was happening – so we can know. We are each created in the Image of God. Our God is the God of Creation and each of us carry that little spark and a desire to create. In reality anyone who creates things can be considered a maker. A mother building a scrapbook of her baby is a maker, an electrical engineering student building his first project is a maker, and even that six year old building a city out of Lego blocks is a maker.

There is nothing as terrifying as being neck deep in the ocean when someone yells “Shark!” You realize that in the water the shark can out maneuver you and you are consumed with the thought of how to get where it is safe. Being chased by a shark is not fun, watching a shark can be… you get the idea. Today, we begin a brand new series entitled “We Need a Bigger Boat” based upon that memorable line from the ultimate summer beach movie – Jaws. Against the backdrop of the ocean, we are going to take a deep dive into the Word of God and discover some frightening parallels between some of the things we find in the Bible and the culture we live in today. Get ready for a bit of mystery, a bit of history, a bit of encouragement, and a challenge or two as we set sail on an adventure like none we have been on before….

Here we are at the start of new year. As the days stretch out before us the question always wanders across our minds and hearts… what does this year hold? What is going to happen next? Will I be ready? How do I get ready? How do I get from here to there?

It is that time of year – Christmas is coming soon. There is so much to do, so many things to accomplish, and one of the things that is common in most traditions is putting up the Christmas Tree.

It is easy to get weary from the challenges we face. It is common to get wounded by the battles we find ourselves in. It is confusing to figure out a world that is spinning out of control. If you are not careful, the struggles will suck the life out of your life. You feel like you are out of space, out of room, and out of time – your back is against the wall. So what happens then? What do you do when it gets tough and you are tired? Well this series is a powerful reminder that it may not be as bad as it seems. As a matter of fact there is relief on the way and God may be using you to bless more people than you can imagine. Against the wall may be the very place that you discover your hour and your moment to stand up and speak up.

This is our series that in essence kicks off our new church year. It carries us into Surge Day and then into the Fall. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. But the gift of God is today. God has positioned each of us as individuals and as a ministry for an amazing future. But often people miss out on what God has for them because they obsess over the past, they worry about the future, and as a result they squander the miracle of the day God has given them.

The jungle is filled with mystery, excitement, and adventure waiting to be experienced. In this summer series, we are going to go on a Jungle Cruise through the pages of the Bible that even the most seasoned of jungle explorers will find unexplored. Along the way, we learn valuable lessons about how to navigate through the jungles of life.

We all know what it is like to get walloped by a mis… not sure what that means? Lets say it this way – we need to have a faith that can withstand whatever the world brings our direction: those who mistreat us, mislead us, and misdirect us. (see all three words start with mis?) We would love to miss out on mistreatment, misleading, and misdirection. While we can’t miss out on those things, we can have a faith that is unstoppable, even when life is unfair, even when everyone around us is moving a different direction.

Cancel Culture is a phrase that is heard way too often today. When something is canceled, it is nulled, ended, voided. Done, over, no longer wanted, like a TV show or subscription.
But today that same idea is also applied to people, that sense of cancel is the basic idea behind the slang meaning of canceling a person. When a person is canceled, they are no longer supported.
Usually if someone is said to be canceled is because they have done something to offend someone else or taken a position that is not popular with the mainstream of thought.
We live in hyper sensitive times and because of the ease of communication and social media, we would rather cancel someone than actually deal with them.
It might surprise you to find that although the phrase seems fresh, the idea of cancel culture is not new. As a matter of fact, it has been happening for thousands of years.
So how do you live as a follower of Jesus in a cancel culture? This series, which features Easter Sunday, gives us a chance to look at how we fit into, work inside, and shape the culture around us that instead of really working through tough issues would rather just erase them and act as if they never existed. It is the perfect playing field for the people of God to have some of their best days and most fun.

Now if we can be honest, it has been one wild and wacky year. It seems like one thing after another has happened and just when you thought it could not get any stranger, it did. On top of that, we have just come off of an election season and depending on how you voted, you are either elated or depressed. In some ways we wonder if we are living in the end times. Brace yourself, it is about to get even stranger because we are going to jump into a four week series based on the Book of Revelation called – The End of the World as we Know it.

Have you ever been afraid? What is it that you are afraid of? Everyone in the life has experienced fear, that is not unexpected. Left unchecked, fear can become like a virus that spreads, infects us, and causes us to miss out on the best part of living life. The great news is that you don’t have to face fear alone, as a matter of fact, God has some answers for you when you face fear. This series we blow through the haze of fear with some real life practical advice on how to make our lives more successful where we don’t have to be paralyzed by fear.

Everyone worships something. In our culture the things that we worship are the things that begin to shape us and define us. There is nothing new about that, it has been happening for generations. But if we are a follower of Jesus Christ, then as we worship Him we begin to understand the depth and reality of how good He is and how deep His love really is. In this series, we get a chance to see in an up-close and personal way how much He loves us and how that love changes us. If we get it right, we discover that we are driven and motivated to do what we do for the love of God.

If you were to read the definition of “pandemonium” it would read “a wild or noisy disorder or confusion” and then be defined as “an uproar in a chaotic situation”

Unless you have been living under a rock or been quarantined without power you are very aware of the global pandemic that has disrupted the lives of most people one way or another. This series allows us to wander into the uproar in the chaos of our culture and tackle the real life questions with some real world answers.

The bulk of this series will revolve around 2 different Psalms, both written long ago but somehow manage to capture the mood, the hurt, the longing and the need we have today as we try to make sense of it all. We need help, it is pandemonium, and if the chaos is not enough add a little corvid craziness to the mix. The great news is that God is right beside you, where He has always been, and is ready to help you.

Life is more than just getting old and getting to the end. It is more than just accumulating stuff and collecting things.
The call of Christ is to touch and change the world with the love of Jesus.

When His people take that call and decide to live life to the fullest for Him they dent the universe… they reshape the world, they leave a mark, they leave a legacy – His Legacy!

Each one of us is on a journey. At times the journey seems easy and we don’t give it much thought.
