From touchandchange.com Sermon Illustrations What is the Spear of Destiny? The Spear of Destiny is featured in the storyline of the celebration worship event at CCC called : Destiny. So just in case you are wondering about it, lets figure out what the Spear of Destiny really is... Two thousand years ago, after Jesus Christ died on the Cross, a Roman centurion by the name of Longinus (at least that is hisname according to history) pierced the heart (through His side) of Our Lord with a lance. Through the centuries this spear has been the object of desire for many leaders including Emperors Constantine, Charlemagne and Frederick Barbarossa, finally falling into the hands of Adolph Hitler. It was even sought by Indiana Jones...(in one of his adventures according to his legend) If you were to examine the spear tip you would see a piece forged out of ancient iron. Wire wrapped by hand over the spear and braided can be seen on the original artifact. The central sleeves contain gold plating. On them is debossed the words "LANCEA ET CLAVVS DOMINI" (Lance and Nail of the Lord), a reference to the central shaft of the upper portion of the spear, believed to be one of the nails that pierced the hands and feet of Christ. This has been added at some point in the passing of the spear from person to person. As you can imagine, people for years have looked at the spear, wondered about it, and even asked...where is the shaft of the spear? All of those questions are a part of the storyline used in DESTINY at CCC. What discoveries did we make? You will have to see for yourself in the on-line experience.... But even more imprtnat and life changing is this question.... What can you discover about your destiny?
