Don’t you just love a good conspiracy?

Aliens at Roswell, the real identity of JFK’s assassin, men landing on the moon, and others are just playground stuff compared to the idea that the church has conspired to hide the true identity of Jesus Christ throughout history.

That is the background behind Dan Brown’s famous bestseller The DaVinci Code. Brown has written a brilliant novel. Loaded with twists and turns, blending fact and fiction into a seamless narrative, and the readers are drawn in and along with the lead characters are following the clues…looking for the truth.

On his website Dan Brown answers the following

The dialogue is wonderful. These authors and I obviously disagree, but the debate that is being generated is a positive powerful force. The more vigorously we debate these topics, the better our understanding of our own spirituality. Controversy and dialogue are healthy for religion as a whole. Religion has only one true enemy--apathy--and passionate debate is a superb antidote.

The book has done that very thing. People who had never given a second thought to many of the issues raised in the book are now searching the web looking for the historical background and roots to Christianity. Constantine, which has not been a popular search word since…well, actually, truthfully, statistically, it was never a popular search word…but now it is a frequent search on Google and Yahoo search engines.

The DaVinci Code has now leapt off the pages of the book to the big screen. Tom Hanks will portray the hero of the story, Robert Langdon, and the director of the thriller is none other than Ron Howard. The film is a blockbuster. With the big screen version of the story once again the debate heats up and people will engage in spiritual issues. As Dan Brown points out, “The more vigorously we debate these topics, the better our understanding of our own spirituality” and he is correct.

If you have never read The DaVinci Code you have missed out on a great read and you should read the book for what it is…a work of fiction. The book is a lot of fun. If you haven’t read the book and just seen the movie then you have chosen the abbreviated version but it is still a lot of fun!
