Selling Ice
Posted by Rev. Jeff Dixon, Senior Equipping Minister at Covenant Community Church on Jan 2, 2002, 19:51

Years ago it was a very lucrative business to sell ice. Before we had refrigeration units, every winter large chunks of ice were stored in well-insulated houses and covered with sawdust to keep it from melting. Then in the summers, the ice was transported by steam ships to distributors all over the world. With progress the ice shipping industry melted away, but there is one ice business that has not melted away at all.

The business of creating ice sculptures is making some cool cash. Many ice sculptures are created by chefs to adorn banquet tables. Other sculptures are created to enter in competitions worldwide. Although not well publicized, ice sculpture competition is a part of the Winter Olympics Culture and Art Festival. To qualify for the Nagano Olympics, Steve Brice and Kevin Roscoe created a 2.5-ton ice sculpture called Moment of Truth. It depicted a man fighting a lion with an intricate net made of ice.

For those who do not want to spend years learning the art of ice sculpting, there are numerous companies that will help you out by selling fiberglass molds. You simply fill them with water, freeze them, and peel off the mold to reveal your sculpture. The prices range from $40 for a one time only mold of a heart or horn of plenty to over $1500 for a reusable mold of a sailfish that is 3.5 feet long.

That is an expensive mold to say the least. Yet as much as they cost, let me tell you about an even more valuable mold. The one I am thinking about is the mold that God used to make you. He is the creator of the mold, and He made it in His image. After you were created, the mold was not used again. That makes you a one of a kind creation of the creator of the universe! Talk about being valuable. You really are and the reason that you have so much value is because the Father gives it to you. That is good news, so why not start living life like a valuable creation of the King? Think about it!
