DNA - Now What?
3 Kinds of Sight
1 Samuel 17: 51-54

You might want to print this page out or grab a journal and jot down your answers to the following questions as you take the next step in your study.

Our past matters. Our defining moments can double as altars to God. It is essential for us to remember the events that help form us and define who we are becoming.

Think about you for just a moment....

Are you a person who thinks about the past a lot?
Or are you mostly focused on the present and future?
Why do you think you are the way you are? Where did you learn it? When did you notice it?

Reread the passage from the celebration worship experience:
50 So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him.

51 David ran and stood over him. He took hold of the Philistine’s sword and drew it from the sheath. After he killed him, he cut off his head with the sword.

When the Philistines saw that their hero was dead, they turned and ran. 52 Then the men of Israel and Judah surged forward with a shout and pursued the Philistines to the entrance of Gath and to the gates of Ekron. Their dead were strewn along the Shaaraim road to Gath and Ekron. 53 When the Israelites returned from chasing the Philistines, they plundered their camp.

54 David took the Philistine’s head and brought it to Jerusalem; he put the Philistine’s weapons in his own tent.

In the months and years that followed the victory over the giant, what do you think David was reminded of when he looked at the giant's armor?

Think back over your past....

List some events (maybe moments, perhaps people, some circumstance) where God was very real to you and really impacted your life....(jot those down)

Now for each moment you listed, write a one line description of how you are different today because of what happened then.

What kind of memory management do you need to do to help move you forward in your journey of faith? In other words, what are you going to do to start building some life memorials so you can anchor to these pivotal moments?

What tangible symbols or mementos could you use to remind yourself of some of the defining moments in your life?

If you want to talk about this more take a moment and drop Jeff Dixon an e-mail at  You can ask a question, offer some additional thoughts, or even ask something else about your journey of faith. Please make sure your reference "sight" in the subject line when you write.
