Face the Fear The Next Step
You have experienced ther Face the Fear event, you have watched the DVD, and now you are looking to take the next step...
The journey began just like any other frightening experience...
You were plunged into the dark, sent careening down some dark hallways, were bombarded by noises, and came face to face with spiders, clowns, and other things that go bump in the night!
It was then the story got really bizarre...the collapse of the attraction reminded you of the activity you had seen while waiting in line. An investigation had been taking place, something strange had obviously happened, and yet...no one was talking about it. It was out of place, secret, and unsettling.
Finally the host returned to tell you that something had gone wrong, horribly wrong...and that people were missing...they had been abducted and you had to escape the warehouse!!!
The clown broke character, you opened up a wall, and began to travel behind the scenes through the warehouse only to find it was too late! Aliens had arrived and now they were after you!
People traveling with you were being abducted and the aliens continued to close in around you. Would you escape in time?
Face the Fear was surely an exciting experience where you were given the chance to be scared in a very safe and controlled setting.
Wouldn't it be nice if life worked that way?
The reality is that life can get confusing, befuddling, upsetting, and downright scary sometimes...if you have ever felt that way you are not alone.
Hopefully by now you have watched the DVD you were given at Face the Fear. On it you saw an episode of the CCC Series called: The Explorers...
There were four suggestions on how to Face Fear
Admit them
Commit them
Release them
Stand Strong
As these were explained they probably made sense but there also was a lot of "God-Talk" wrapped around each suggestion.
For some of you this whole idea of being a God-Follower is new stuff, it takes you into unknown territory, it might even be a little bit frightening...so how do you do it? What does it mean to follow Jesus?
Your heart tends to run from God and push back against Him. The Bible calls this "sin." Romans3:23 says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Sin is the junk that puts the distance between us and God.
Yet God loves you and wants to save you from sin, to offer you a new life of hope. John 10:10says, "I have come that you may have life, and have it to the full."
To give you this gift of salvation, God made a way through His Son, Jesus Christ. Romans5:8 says, "But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
You receive this gift by faith alone. Ephesians 2:8 says, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -- not by works, so that no one can boast."
Faith is a decision of your heart demonstrated by the actions of your life. Romans 10:9 says," If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."
Now that is what gets you on the journey of being a God-Follower. And here is another thing, God loves you so much He doesn't MAKE YOU follow Him, instead He gives you a CHOICE.
So the choice is yours...now please know, we were not lying to you when we told you that Jesus is the key to handling fear in your life. He wants to do that for you, but He doesn't make you choose to follow Him.
You can choose to ignore Him and try to handle things on your own and you have some practical suggestions for dealing with fear and life on the DVD...or you can choose to trust and believe Jesus and then you will find the secret to handling fear, life, and everything in between...
Again, the choice is yours!
If you are choosing right now to believe Jesus died for your sins and to receive new life though Him, pray a prayer similar to this to thank Him for your new life:
"Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died to forgive me of my sins. I now accept your offer of eternal life. Thank you for forgiving me of all my sin. Thank you for my new life. From this day forward, I will choose to follow you."
If you prayed this prayer, share your decision with a Christian friend or pastor. If you are not already attending church, find one in which you can worship and grow in your faith. Following Christ's example, ask to be baptized as a public expression of your faith. You may also contact us at Covenant and we would be happy to share with you more on what the Christian life should be.
