"Believe me, you don't want to travel down that road!"

The statement above is common or similar to other things that you may have heard in the past. The message of the statement is clear, though you can't see what is down the road, the person making the statement has knowledge of the danger...the choice you have to make is whether or not you trust the person giving you the warning, or whether or not you are willing to go down the road and suffer the consequences.

In other words, do you really believe what they are telling you?

The invitation to believe is one that we are all familiar with. Have you ever wondered what the word means from the Bible?

The Greek word for "believe" is "pisteuo" and it occurs over 90 times (always as a verb) in the Gospel of John alone. The verb often means that you are to accept that something is true.

For example, Jesus said, "Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me" (John 5:46

Even more significant is the special expression for "pisteuo" which translates, "to believe into" in the sense of putting one's trust in another. This particular use of the word is found only in the book of John. This usage expresses a strong sense of personal trust.

In John 3:16 the invitation is extended and if you believe you will find eternal life. It is when we are willing to believe and trust Jesus that we begin to see things differently.

Our world...
Our relationships...
Our hopes....
Our dreams....

Everything changes when we are willing to decide whether or not we will believe.
