Discovering Destiny
The Next Step (Installment Three)
How Do I Find God’s Direction Today?
In discovering our destiny there is certainly a need for following the direction that God has for each of us. So the question is how do you find it today, in this day and age, in this culture, in the world you live in?
I could list a number of ways that God leads us today, but let me list some of the ways that He constantly works and lead in the lives of many…
Third, God leads through the counsel of wise, qualified, trustworthy people
“Moses..you are trying to take on too much” Exodus 18:19-27
Now when you read this lets make sure we are clear. We are not talking about some guru in Tibet or some serious looking guy at a bus stop. We are talking about an individual who has proven himself or herself wise and trustworthy, and therefore is qualified to give advice on a given matter.
These individuals should be followers of Jesus Christ, since we are talking about God’s Direction for our lives. The people we are talking to should have nothing to gain or lose by giving their advice. This also means they are often not in our immediate family. (Immediate family members usually don’t want us to do something that will take us away from them, or cause us or them discomfort or worry* For more on this see Charles Swindoll’s The Mystery of God’s Will)
Now as sure as I write that, I will use as an illustration the life of Moses. He got sage advice from his father in law, Jethro who basically told Moses, “You can’t do everything, you are wearing yourself out, you need help!” Now this might have been so painfully obvious at this point that only Jethro had the guts or the arena to say it, but that would be a study for another time. Moses listened and found that the will of God was to delegate some of the stuff he was doing to others. Wise advice.
Now please read carefully, choose the wise counselors wisely. Just as the best counselors may not be in your immediate family, they may not be your best friends either. Here is the standard to use…wise and trustworthy counselors only want what God wants! (EXCLAMATION POINT!!!!)
The agenda of the counselors is simple. What does God want?
They will listen, stay objective, answer slowly. Sometimes they will even make you wait for their answer as they need to pray through it. Other times they may have an answer right away because it is clear to them.
But as they speak, listen carefully…they may be the way that God has chosen to speak to you and lead you in this moment!
Now, these next step studies have been designed to simply jump start the process for you in discovering God’s direction for you life. Don’t let your study stop here. Explore the rest of the CCC website, explore the Destiny resources, and most of all…don’t stop seeking His direction for your life. It is your destiny!
