The Da Vinci Code says: ‘Until 325 AD, Jesus was viewed by his followers as a mortal prophet, a great and powerful man, but a man nonetheless. A mortal.’It was not until the First Council of Nicea in 325 AD that the church established the divinity and equality of the Son in the Trinity. Is this right?

The DaVinci Code actually says it this way…p.233

Jesus’ establishment as the Son of God was officially proposed and voted on by the Council of Nicea…a relatively close vote at that!

In other words, is it true that nobody believed Jesus was divine until 300 years after his death?

Constantine had a problem in his empire…there was a speaker and teacher named Arius who had gathered a following who were persuaded that Jesus Christ was somehow less than eternal…

Politics and religion were then as now always controversial and the fact that Constantine had become sensitive to Christian thought made it a bit more explosive. So there were over 300 bishops that gathered together…on the agenda was to talk about and make a statement concerning this type of teaching…

Conventions still do this kind of stuff today…

They did and the voted their thoughts and hearts on the matter

As a group they said they believed that Jesus was indeed who He said He was

This is IMPORTANT:

In the face of the DaVinci Code lies…The vote that took place at Nicea affirmed what people had been believing all along, The vote did not make Jesus divine by any stretch of the imagination…and to conclude that means that not only is your history skewed…but you must have another agenda.

There was nothing new here

And the closeness of the vote…300 to 2

Please note some historians put the vote at 300 to 3, there is one vote in question somewhat…and obviously it doesn’t matter much!
